About ReadyDMV

ReadyDMV is a free study site for people preparing for U.S. learner permit and motorcycle knowledge tests. Because every state writes its own test, we build a separate question bank for each state — written from that state’s official driver handbook — instead of recycling one national set.

Why we built it

Most permit practice sites lock their question banks behind accounts and paywalls, show the same generic questions for every state, and grade practice exams at a made-up percentage. We took the opposite approach: the whole bank is free with no sign-up, each state’s questions follow that state’s handbook, and our simulators use the real question counts and passing standards published by each state.

How the questions are made

Every question is original practice material, written from the public topics in official state driver handbooks (state government publications), then reviewed for accuracy, duplication, and answer consistency. Exam facts — question counts, passing lines, fees, age minimums, language options — are checked against official state sources and cited on each state page. They are teaching questions, not copies of real exam items — see the disclaimer.

What this site is not

ReadyDMV is an independent, unofficial project. It is not affiliated with any state DMV, DPS, DOT, or licensing agency. Passing our practice tests does not guarantee passing the official exam — always study your state’s current official handbook.
