Riding Skills (Braking/Swerving/Turning)

If the front wheel locks during hard braking, what should you do?

  • A.Keep it locked until the motorcycle stops
  • B.Release the front brake immediately and then reapply it smoothly
  • C.Squeeze the front brake even harder
  • D.Turn the handlebars sharply to the side
Correct answer

B. Release the front brake immediately and then reapply it smoothly

Why

A locked front wheel loses steering and can cause a fall very quickly, so release it at once and reapply smoothly. This is different from a rear-wheel lock, which is handled the opposite way.
